NEW CURRICULUM FOR YEAR 8

In Year 8 pupils will be making a novelty hat!

Always cheerful, eye-catching and a talking point, the pupils design a product for themselves to reflect the ‘Best of British’ theme. We are expecting big, bold, flamboyantly decorated hats through the exploration of previously taught, as well as and newly acquired, techniques. Theory work will concentrate on exploring the work of a famous designer (Philip Treacy), as well as brainstorming and refining design ideas. Pupils go on to be able to construct the hat (using templates) from live teacher demonstrations and written instructions, confidently and independently threading and using the sewing machine along the way.

All practical work is supported with annotated design and evaluation tasks, as well as a study of the inspirational, controversial, and innovative Treacy.
