French
Our Vision for French at Lockyer's Middle School
At Lockyer’s Middle School we believe that the learning of a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for children. Children develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning. They develop linguistic competence, extend their knowledge of how language works and explore differences and similarities between the foreign language and English.
Learning another language raises awareness of our multilingual and multicultural world and introduces an international dimension to children's learning, giving them an insight into their own culture and that of others. During French lessons at Lockyer’s Middle School, we enable children to become great listeners and communicators who are able to develop and articulate their own ideas.
How French links to other Subjects at our School
The learning of a foreign language provides a medium for cross-curricular links and for reinforcement of knowledge, skills and understanding developed in other subjects. During French lessons at Lockyer’s Middle School, children develop grammatical knowledge, independent learning, resilience and confidence. Children learn about customs, festivals and life in other countries.
How you can help with French at home
Children may extend their learning of French and other languages through accessing BBC Bitesize and Duolingo. Pupils can also attend a Spanish club at school.
